Best Drinks to Choose on Keto Diet

The ketogenic diet (also known as the keto diet) is a low-carb, high-fat diet with numerous health benefits. Many studies have shown that eating this way can help you lose weight and improve your health.

Although water is the healthiest option because it has no calories, carbs, or additives, you may want to add a beverage to improve your energy, add taste and diversity, or substitute some of your favorite sugary drinks.

Drinks To Avoid In Keto Diet

Sugar-sweetened beverages (such as soda) and fruit juice (even 100 percent juice) should be avoided because they are high in sugar and consequently carbohydrates. Dairy milk is similarly heavy in carbohydrates, making it unfit for a keto diet. Diet drinks should be avoided (or at the very least limited), according to Jill Keene, RDN, a private practitioner in White Plains, New York. According to her, some artificial sweeteners may harm blood sugar levels.

Now let’s see what CAN we drink.

Tea/Coffee

Tea is a good option because it’s carb- and calorie-free if you keep it basic and don’t add any sugar or sweetener. According to the Harvard Health Letter, teas are high in health-promoting antioxidant flavonoids, which may help blood vessels function better and keep your heart healthy. If you’re drinking in the afternoon or evening, use a caffeine-free herbal tea like chamomile to avoid disrupting your sleep.

Black tea is brewed from older tea leaves, which gives it a stronger flavor, a darker color, and more caffeine. Green tea, on the other hand, is prepared from fresh tea leaves and has a more flowery flavor, lighter color, and lower caffeine content.

White tea, prepared from young tea leaves, is another option. When compared to black and green tea, it has a very mild, delicate flavor.

Coffee is another keto-friendly beverage that is practically calorie- and carb-free. It can be served hot or cold, much like tea.

Coffee includes caffeine, which may help to speed up your metabolism. It also contains chlorogenic acid, a polyphenol antioxidant that may help you lose weight.

Nut Milk

If you want to spice things up, almond, coconut, and cashew kinds of milk are fantastic options because they only have 1 g (or less) of carbs per cup. Just make sure to read the nutrition label carefully and choose unsweetened kinds whenever possible. These are frequently fortified with vitamins and minerals, making them an excellent source of calcium and vitamin D.

Sparkling Water

Sparkling water is carbonated either naturally from a mineral spring or artificially using carbon dioxide gas during the manufacturing process.

Although many sparkling water options are flavored, they are often unsweetened, making them a great low-carb option.

This is a fun way to spice up your regular water – just stay away from the tonic, which appears to be clear, ordinary bubbling water but includes a lot of sugar. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, adding a squeeze of lemon provides about 12 grams (g) of carbs (USDA).

Wine

As we all know wine is the healthiest alcohol drink, which is good for your heart and liver.

The more carbohydrates in a bottle of red wine (like dry spanish red wines), the bigger the body. So, search for a light to medium-bodied dry red wine.

Red wines like Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon are ideal for a keto diet.

Zinfandel and Grenache, on the other hand, are sweet wines that aren’t the finest for losing weight. A glass of fortified wine like Port can include up to 14 grams of carbohydrates, so it’s not a keto-friendly option.

Spanish red wine like Rioja Crianza would be perfect.

If you enjoy white wine, we have some exciting news for you, too.

Residual sugar is minimal in dry white wines like Sauvignon Blanc and Brut Champagne. They have a light body and contain fewer carbohydrates than dry reds. Furthermore, dry whites have a fruity flavor, so if you prefer sweet wine but don’t want to consume carbohydrates, try a dry white wine instead.
